Is there something in your life you’ve overcome to get where you are in business and life today? Do you have a story of triumph over a setback, challenge, or loss?
We all have a story behind the work we do – a story of personal growth, transformation, healing that inspired us to our calling. How much are you incorporating this story into your marketing and core message today?
To cultivate a heart connection with potential clients and customers, it's wise to weave elements of your story into your marketing materials, including your About Page, Signature Talk, Live Video, Blog Posts, and more.
In my work as a writing coach for female entrepreneurs, many women ask, "how can I tell my story, when I don't know which parts to include and which parts to leave out?"
I get it. We don't want to "firehose" people with too much information, or worse yet, "overshare" and make them uncomfortable.
So where do you draw the line? How can you strike that balance and share just the right amount of personal detail to open doors of connection (without scaring people off)?
The answer isn't simple, but it's one worth pursuing. I encourage you to practice and test things out. Try sharing small pieces of your story in a safe setting with trusted other/s first. Then you can grow from there.
It's also important to consider who the audience for your message is, in as much detail as possible. Doing so will allow you to write directly to them.
If you're interested in listening to a sample of story sharing, I invite you to check out a recent podcast interview I did. Notice how my sharing inspired the hosts to spontaneously share pieces of their stories, too.
